Day One

Merriam-Webster defines addiction as “a compulsive, chronic, physiological or psychological need for a habit-forming substance, behavior, or activity having harmful physical, psychological, or social effects, and typically causing well-defined symptoms (such as anxiety, irritability, tremors, or nausea) upon withdrawal or abstinence.”

Hi, my name is Caitlyn Lambeth. I’m 22 years old, and both of my older brothers are addicts. But what does that mean for me? In theory, we’re different people with different lives — so it shouldn’t affect me, right?

My parents raised us in church. They gave us everything we could have possibly wanted or needed. They were the perfect parents. So, what went wrong?

I’ve always been told things like, “You have a testimony,” “God is going to use you and this experience,” “You’re so mature for your age,” and more. But if you’ve had any direct experience with addiction, you know how lonely, defeating, and scary it is.

Believe me when I say this blog isn’t just me repeating those words for what might be the hundredth time you've heard them. Instead, I want you to feel heard by the end of this. I want you to know that God still cares. And most importantly, I want you to know that it does get better — one way or another.

I pray that my experience helps even one person find peace in the chaos.
